The Sydney Rope Festival will be a showcase of the best talent in Japanese rope bondage from Australia and around the world. The intrinsic beauty, feel and structure of Japanese rope bondage evolved from its original roots of Martial arts and has become an expressive art form today.
'Shibari' means 'to tie' and 'Kinbaku' to 'rope bondage', however the deeper meaning of these words do not translate in vocabulary as the portrayal of human emotion and desire, that is the essence of Japanese rope bondage, is both limitless and unable to be restrained by language.
This year, event-goers will have the opportunity to view acclaimed 'Nawashis' (rope masters) from Russia, Vlada and Falco, who have each have carved their own space within both the Japanese and International rope scenes with their dedication to the art, creative brilliance and unique styles.
